Sergeant Krumwiede enlisted in the U.S. Army at Salt Lake City, Utah as an Infantry Soldier (11B). He attended Infantry One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he graduated. On the 7th of December, 2011, SGT Krumwiede deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where he continued to serve as a team leader. On 12 June 2012, Sergeant Krumwiede was injured in Afghanistan due to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion while he was on dismounted patrol.
Sergeant Krumwiede never allowed his injuries to deter him from his professionalism and was able to foster esprit-de-corps, friendship, and camaraderie without compromising or sacrificing his mission to recover from his injuries.
Sergeant Krumwiede is a remarkable soldier and our nation greatly appreciates the sacrifice he made for our country.
